Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri has warned that online newspaper, Sahara Reporters is not immune to criminal prosecution for libel and defamation.
The aide was particularly miffed over the publication’s reportage of an alleged birthday party held for the President and with him in attendance.
The Presidential aide tweeted, “The Presidency condemns some in cyberspace who unjustifiably impugn the character and integrity of the elected leader of their country.see the tweets bellow
“@SaharaReporters lied when it said the President took ill after a birthday party. There was no birthday party in London or any other place.
“@SaharaReporters may be unregulated by an editorial board but are not beyond the bounds of legal action for libel and willful defamation. @SaharaReporters incessant claim of a bibulous President is the product of malicious imagination.
“The Presidency will like to reiterate the trite point that no human being is beyond health challenges irrespective of their station in life.
“Sadly, this fact appears to be beyond the understanding of @SaharaReporters who seem to have lost all sense of decency and human compassion.”
SaharaReporters had reported that the President fell ill after a night of partying and thus was unable to attend the opening ceremony of the Honorary International Investors Council (HIIC) meeting at the London Hilton on Parklane.
