88-year-old man arraigned for N1.4m scam by EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday arraigned Olusola Alaba (aka Anthony) Adekunle Okundalaiye, Lateef Tokunbo Alli, Magnus Obe before Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, on a four count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretences and forgery to the tune of N1,490,000.
Alaba allegedly obtained the sum from one Olutoyin Ogundipe by falsely representing to her that the money represented the cost of rent for a three bedroom flat located at Plot 8, Oladimeji Alo Street, Lekki Phase One, Lagos.

Count one of the charges reads: “That Olusola Alaba (a.k.a Babatunde Salvage, Anthony Adekunle Okundalaiye, Lateef Tokunbo Alli, Magnus Obe) on or about the 20th day of June 2011, at Ikeja within the Ikeja Judicial Division of the Lagos State High Court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N1.490.000 ( One Million, Four Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira Only) from Olutoyin Ogundipe by falsely representing to her that the said sum represent the cost of three bedroom flat located at Plot 8 Oladimeji Alo Street Lekki Phase One which representation you know to be false.”
The accused person pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
However, persecution counsel, Francis Usani, urged the court to proceed on trial and remand the accused person in prison custody.
